ARSENAL hold a psychological advantage in the Premier League title fight.
That is according to former Tottenham defender Eric Dier, who believes his team suffered from playing after Leicester in 2016.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team finished 11 points behind winners Leicester eight years ago, and were even overtaken by Arsenal on the final day.
However, their dreams of winning their first Premier League title remained alive until their penultimate away game of the season against Chelsea, which became known as “The Battle of the Bridge”.
Dier, 30, has now spoken out about having to watch Leicester triumph before Tottenham’s game, saying it had a mental impact on the North London side.
When asked about Bayern Munich’s loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, he stated, “Obviously you never want to rule out winning the league, but the defeat against Borussia Dortmund was a bit of a sucker punch.”I’ve been in that scenario previously with Tottenham, when Leicester were vying for the title.
“I thought it was incredibly unfair at the time since they seemed to play before us every week, and it wasn’t like we could win first and put pressure on them.
“Every weekend was a bit of a sucker punch because they would win their game, so we were never able to gain any momentum.”
With these statements in mind, SunSport has examined the confirmed times of Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool’s games, with Mikel Arteta’s side starting first in three of the next five games.
