Sharing on Mail Sport, Graeme Souness believes that Phil Foden will surpass Martin Odegaard to win the Player of the Year award.
Odegaard had another excellent season and was one of the driving forces behind the Gunners winning major trophies both domestically and in Europe.
The Norwegian international also played very well in midweek when Arsenal shared points with Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. However, Odegaard was overshadowed by Phil Foden, who showed great form in Man City’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Real Madrid.
Souness told Mail Sport: “The votes are being cast for the Footballer of the Year award and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard will be nominated. However, Man City’s Phil Foden will get my vote.
Foden has been excellent. He always wants to learn something new every day in training and we are witnessing a true superstar in the making.
That goal against Real Madrid in midweek summed up Foden. Calm under pressure, he had a smooth curling shot. He’s a great striker.”
