Although there is growing uncertainty about Alexander Isak’s future in the North East, Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United is confident that his teammate has what it takes to be one of the best football players in the world.
Despite suffering a couple groin ailments this season, Isak was in outstanding form on Saturday at St James’ Park against Tottenham Hotspur, scoring two goals to push his season total over 20. Gordon praised the Swedish striker’s skill when speaking on TNT Sports, saying, “It’s hard to describe [how good Isak is].”
“You don’t need my explanation; you can see it for yourself out on the field. He has such talent. Maintaining his fitness will allow him to be among the world’s finest players. He’s a great playmate.”
Gordon also emphasized Isak’s assistance, which he believed had little to do with him. He went on, “You saw the assist I got for him, I just handed the ball to him, and he took a couple men out of the game. He only did it. What a talented individual.”
Isak’s spectacular performance will likely fuel rumors regarding his future at Newcastle, as Arsenal is rumored to be interested in the former Real Sociedad player as they look for a prolific striker. Gabriel Jesus’s form has declined this season, so Kai Havertz has been used more frequently in the center forward position.
Isak’s contract with Newcastle expires in the summer of 2028, thus the team is well-positioned to hold onto their top player. When asked if he planned to stick with Eddie Howe’s team earlier this month, Isak said, “Yeah, of course I want to be here in the future.”
“I came here for the project, and I genuinely feel at home and like performing here. For myself and the club, I want to wrap up this season well. This is my favorite place to play.”
