Tuesday night’s AFC Champions League match saw Al-Nassr win thanks to a spectacular award that Cristiano Ronaldo broke.
The legendary Portuguese player started for his team’s 2-0 victory over Persepolis, playing 90 minutes before being replaced in extra time.
Even though he did not register a point that evening, the 38-year-old succeeded in shattering a remarkable record once more.
Ronaldo achieved his 1000 game unbeaten streak (wins and draws) during his club and international career by winning with the Saudi giants.
Ronaldo’s club has won 776 of those games and drew 224, which is an outstanding record to say the least.
After ten minutes, the former Real Madrid striker let Marcelo Brozovic loose in the penalty area, which helped the team overcome their recalcitrant opponents. Abdulrahman Ghareeb scored the first goal with a deflected effort after the Croatian cutback.
In the seventieth minute, Mohammed Qassem sealed the victory by doubling Al-Nassr’s lead with a shot that he sent into Alireza Beiranvand’s net from a close angle on the left.
Al-Nassr forward Sadio Mane stated, “It was a good game, even though the first half was a little bit difficult for both teams.”
“We scored two goals, created some chances, and played well in the second half. I think we deserved to win tonight.”
Since the Asian Football Confederation banned Persepolis two years ago, thousands of supporters who had followed Ronaldo since he arrived in Tehran were unable to attend the game, which was played in an empty Azadi Stadium.
Al-Nassr’s victory moves them to the top of their group, two points clear of Al-Duhail, coached by Hernan Crespo, following the Qatari team’s 0-0 tie with FC Istiklol of Tajikistan in Dushanbe.
