Mikel Arteta’s side is intent on improving their squad every summer, and Guimaraes might be their next big-money signing.

Newcastle is an ambitious club that does not intend to lose any of its key players, thus Arsenal would most likely struggle to sign him.

However, that does not mean they can prevent him from going, especially since he now has a release clause.

Transfer insider Ben Jacobs has supplied an update on the Brazilian, revealing that the Gunners have already made contact with his entourage.

“As long as the clause is active, Newcastle will simply point to its value, but it is understood that offers exceeding £80 million may be considered if Guimaraes wishes to leave for a Champions League club.”
