Stefan Ortega won Premier League for Man City and Heung-Min Son miss will haunt Arsenal

Jamie Carragher believes Stefan Ortega has won Manchester City the title, and that his late save to deny Heung-Min Son will “haunt” Arsenal fans.

City are just one win away from the title after a 2-0 victory against Tottenham on Tuesday, putting them two points ahead of the Gunners with one game remaining.

However, a draw at Spurs would have left Arsenal top of the standings, putting the title in their hands heading into the final day.
That scenario nearly occurred when Manuel Akanji was robbed of possession in his own half in the 86th minute at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Son sped towards goal, leaving only Ortega, City’s No. 2 who had replaced the injured Ederson early in the second half, to beat.

With the goal at his mercy, Ortega saved Son’s attempt well, and Erling Haaland scored his second goal of the game from the penalty spot two minutes later to secure a crucial three points.
Ortega won the Premier League title tonight alone. Obviously, a lot has gone into it during the season, but when you look at this game, if he doesn’t make those stops at 1-0, Arsenal wins the league. “That is how close it is.”
Carragher compared Ortega’s save to the stunning long-range goal scored by then-City captain Vincent Kompany, which helped his team defeat Leicester 1-0 and propel them ahead of Liverpool heading into the last day of the 2018/19 season.Carragher insists Man City's second goalkeeper Ortega has 'WON them the title'| All Football

“When I think of me a few years ago as a Liverpool fan, watching Vincent Kompany put that shot in against Leicester, that is that moment now for Arsenal fans,” Carragher remarked.

“That Son chance is the moment Arsenal fans will remember in five or ten years. Even if they win the title in the next five years, which they have a good chance of accomplishing since they have a fantastic team and a terrific manager, that opportunity will haunt them.”
