Arsenal and Manchester City have contacted Newcastle United player Bruno Guimaraes’ camp to discuss a possible trade.
According to transfer news analyst Ben Jacobs, Guimaraes is receiving interest and has a £100 million release clause for a portion of the summer, but not the entire season.
Jacobs spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, discussing Newcastle’s situation this summer, including a long list of prospective ins and outs at St James’ Park.
Arsenal could need a top midfield signing, since Thomas Partey has been plagued by injuries recently, while Granit Xhaka has yet to be replaced since his departure last summer.
Guimaraes may be ideal after impressing with Newcastle, and Jacobs claims the Gunners have joined Man City in making contact about a prospective deal.
Jacobs added that Paris Saint-Germain appear to have cooled their interest in Guimaraes, with the Brazil international no longer a priority for them as they seek to recruit Bernardo Silva from Manchester City.
Arsenal is in contact with Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes camp regarding his transfer.
“Newcastle also don’t want to lose Bruno Guimaraes, but the decision could be taken out of their hands if someone triggers his £100m release clause, which is valid between late May and the end of June,” Jacobs stated.
“As long as the clause is active, Newcastle will simply point to its value, but it is understood that offers exceeding £80 million may be considered if Guimaraes wishes to leave for a Champions League club.”
“Guimaraes is pleased at Newcastle, although both Manchester City and Arsenal have contacted his team.
