In an interview with Men’s Health UK, midfielder Declan Rice revealed the reason why he played well at Arsenal.
During last summer’s transfer window, Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham United for 105 million pounds, thereby becoming the most expensive contract in the Gunners’ history.
Despite facing a lot of pressure from transfer value, the British star still had a successful season at Emirates Stadium. After 48 appearances in all competitions, the 25-year-old midfielder scored 7 goals and had 9 assists to help his teammates score.
And according to the revelation from the player born in 1999, confidence is the secret to success in football.
“I joined Arsenal for a huge amount of money, I know I am a quality player, and I am confident I can make a big impact on the club. You can spend hours burying yourself in the gym, lifting weights, doing leg exercises, but you have to have the mindset of a conqueror if you want to find success, ” Rice said on Men’s Health UK. “Competing psychology is extremely important, coach Mikel Arteta always mentions this issue to the players, you must learn from mistakes.”
In addition, in order to be in the best shape for each match, Rice often eats 4 Pancakes before the match.
“When I first arrived at Arsenal, I saw everyone eating Pancakes before the match. At first, I found it confusing but later, it was something that helped me play better. That kind of cake helps me have more energy, I eat 4 cakes before each match,” Rice added.
This weekend, Rice and his teammates at Arsenal will enter the final match in the Premier League this season against Everton. Currently, on the rankings, the Gunners are ranked 2nd with 86 points after 37 matches, 2 points behind Manchester City, so if they want to win the championship, Arteta’s team must defeat Everton and hope that Man City stumbles against West Ham United.
