Former MU captain Rio Ferdinand believes that coach Erik ten Hag will not continue to lead Man United. He does not believe that the Dutch strategist still has a chance to stay at Old Trafford, even if they win the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand commented that he did not see any faint hope of Man United keeping Ten Hag at the club after this season because the new owner INEOS wants to change: “I’m thinking about the future.” Coach Ten Hag’s future, regardless of whether he wins or loses the last match, I don’t believe he will still be there next season.
I’m not saying Man United firing coach Ten Hag is what I want. I’m just talking about what I believe will happen, and I think the club will look for another option. I also don’t think winning the FA Cup changes anything in the eyes of INEOS, although this is just my assumption.”
Manchester United has recently been looking at a number of potential faces to replace coach Ten Hag, including Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate, and Kieran McKenna, but has not officially announced anything before May 25.
Expert Rio Ferdinand also said he was not satisfied with Manchester United’s performance this season. He said that although injuries are a problem, players can still do better. Ferdinand analyzed the team’s playing style that relied too much on captain Bruno Fernandes: “Injuries aside because every club is like that, the team’s performance was too bad. Most teams have injuries, maybe not to the extent of Man United.
I keep saying this over and over again, sounding like a broken song: performance levels may drop but your playing style must be recognized. MU doesn’t have that. I don’t know how Man United plays football, or what team we are?
Obviously, they are too dependent on Bruno Fernandes. This is a warning bell for Man United. Look, every time Bruno leaves the squad, the decline in quality of the team is like a joke. Their performances were very bad, something I haven’t seen in many years.”
Man United defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at The Amex in the Premier League. The Red Devils ended the Premier League season in eighth place on the rankings and currently, they cannot participate in European tournaments next season. However, Man United can win tickets to the Europa League if they defeat Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 25.
Man United have their worst record since the major domestic league was established in 1992, now needing to beat champions Manchester City at Wembley which is not easy at all. Man City was considered Man United’s “noisy neighbor” but the wind has changed. And regardless of whether MU wins the FA Cup, coach Erik ten Hag’s future seems very fragile, similar to Luis van Gaal having to leave the hot seat less than two days after winning the national cup.
