After losing out on the Premier League title on the last day of the season, KAI HAVERTZ sobbed.
The German made sure Arsenal fulfilled their half of the agreement by winning thrillingly late against Everton.
That completed a 2-1 triumph at the Emirates for the Gunners, who had rallied from behind after Takehiro Tomiyasu’s skillful equalizer and Idrissa Gueye’s deflected free kick.
However, Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over West Ham at home meant that Pep Guardiola’s team had won four straight titles.
And as their second-place finish was confirmed, it was evident how devastated Arsenal was.
Havertz stumbled badly on the Emirates pitch, falling on his haunches and unable to control the outburst.
The forward then regained his composure to speak to TNT Sports and put his pain into words.
Havertz said: “What can I say? I feel sorry for all the Arsenal fans, for us. We gave our best but it wasn’t enough.
“Maybe in two or three months we can say it was a good fight but right now I feel like we deserved more.
“It wasn’t enough in the end but we go again next year.
“We showed again great character, they didn’t make it easy for us.
“Since the first minute, they just played with the time – every throw, every ball they take time.
“My opinion is that sometimes it’s not fair in football but we have to accept that football is hard.
“Hopefully we can go again next year and give Arsenal fans what they need and what they are all here for.
“It’s so frustrating – it’s tough. Next year we’ll be an even better team and give everything.”
Plenty of fans piled in with messages of sympathy and support for the former Chelsea man.
“Feel bad for Kai, he’s been impressive,” one person wrote.
“Don’t worry, Kai, next year it will be tears of joy,” wrote another.
Another said, “Hey, my guy, head’s up.”
Last but not least, a user said, “He will lift it next season, don’t worry.”
On the last day of the season, Phil Foden’s goal for City after just 79 seconds gave Arsenal a terrible start.
Before Declan Rice unintentionally headed Gueye’s set-piece past the stranded David Raya, he made it 2-0.
