BUENOS AIRES — For their final friendlies before the Copa America, Argentina on Monday unveiled a 29-man roster captained by Lionel Messi. However, forward Paulo Dybala, who has battled ailments, was left off the roster.
On June 9 at Soldier Field Stadium in Chicago, Argentina will take on Ecuador; five days later, on June 10, at Commanders Field in Washington, they will play Guatemala.
To reach CONMEBOL’s maximum of 26 players for the Copa America, which begins on June 20, coach Lionel Scaloni will need to remove three players from the roster.Leonardo Balerdi, Valentin Barco, Alejandro Garnacho, and Valentin Carboni are young players that Scaloni has included in addition to Messi, Angel Di Maria, Nicolas Otamendi, and other players that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The main absence is AS Roma forward Dybala, who has missed prior international matches due to a number of injuries.
Argentina’s Copa America campaign begins on June 20 against Canada and continues with matches against Chile five days later and Peru on June 29. The US tournament is scheduled to conclude on July 14.
