Sharing via Podcast Einfach mal Luppen, midfielder Toni Kroos clearly stated why he would retire after EURO 2024.
Kroos’ importance under Carlo Ancelotti is expected to decline this season, due to the presence of young midfielders Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Jude Bellingham. However, the German international still has 32 appearances in La Liga this season.
There was hope that Kroos would extend his time at the Bernabeu, but recently, he shocked everyone when he confirmed that he would retire from playing after EURO 2024. The 34-year-old has won five Champions League titles with Los Blancos since leaving Bayern Munich to come to Madrid in 2014 and winning 4 La Liga championships.
Kroos said: “Anyone who has listened closely over the past few years will know that the only option for me is to end my career at Real Madrid. No more Real, no more football.
You want to retire with success. And this is the perfect time.
I never wanted to feel that the club, the fans, and the people around me had to finally say to me: ‘It’s over’. Or I’ll have to sit on the bench for another two or three years.”
