After Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid is said to have reached an agreement to sign another top European talent – Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
After winning the 36th La Liga championship, Real Madrid was crowned Champions League for the 15th time in history with a 2-0 victory over Dortmund in early June.
Wirtz could become Real Madrid’s new Galactico
Despite this, many fans have pointed out that the club still lacks a classy central striker since Karim Benzema left in the summer of 2023. This has led to Los Blancos signing the money directed Kylian Mbappe after he left PSG.
And according to Marca, Real’s desire to build one of the best teams in football history does not stop there. Talented young German player Florian Wirtz is their next target. Also according to Marca, Real Madrid is said to have agreed to personal terms with Wirtz to recruit him in 2025.
If this deal is completed, Wirtz will replace Jude Bellingham as an attacking midfielder, while the Englishman will be pushed deeper into central midfield. This could be Real’s plan to replace Toni Kroos, who left the club after last season’s Champions League final.
At Real, Wirtz can play as an attacking midfielder so that Bellingham can step back to play as a central midfielder
With a reported price tag of around 150 million euros, the deal would break the transfer record in the Bundesliga. The previous record was when Barca recruited Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for 135 million euros in the summer of 2017.
Real believes Wirtz is worth that price after he had a breakthrough season with Beyer Leverkussen, helping the team win a double Bundesliga championship and German National Cup.
The young German player scored 18 goals and had 20 assists in 49 appearances last season. He is considered an indispensable part of coach Xabi Alonso’s undefeated squad.
Furthermore, Wirtz is likely to play an important role in Germany’s EURO 2024 campaign as the home team enters the tournament as one of the favorites to win the championship.
