Chelsea are reportedly ‘confident’ of avoiding a problem with Michael Olise’s release clause as they attempt to sign the Crystal Palace star.
Chelsea contacted Palace on Thursday about a potential transfer for the highly rated Englishman, who can play as a right winger or attacking midfielder.
The only issue for Chelsea is that Olise is believed to have a £60 million release clause, which they cannot exercise because it only applies to Champions League clubs.
That is concerning for Chelsea, given that Newcastle United and Bayern Munich have also contacted south London club Palace about Olise’s availability, while Manchester United and Manchester City are also rumoured to be interested.
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea is now confident that Olise will not cost more than a Champions League club.
That follows new talks with Palace amid ‘confusion’ over Olise’s release clause – though Chelsea remain the favourites to sign him.
Chelsea are adamant that their failure to qualify for the Champions League will not result in them having to pay a premium.
The west Londoners are also believed to be willing to offer players to Palace as part of a swap deal to bring Olise to Stamford Bridge.
Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, and Cesare Casadei are among the players Chelsea could offer to Palace as part of their bid to sign Olise.
