Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian has finished his medical ahead of his record-breaking move to Chelsea from Palmeiras.
Chelsea agreed a deal with Palmeiras for Estevao last month, with the Blues paying a reported £29.5 million upfront, with the deal potentially rising to more than £51 million with performance-related add-ons, setting a record for a South American teenager.
The 17-year-old is set to become the Blues’ latest South American signing, joining Kendry Paez, Angelo Gabriel, Andrey Santos, and Deivid Washington as the club focuses on the South American market.
Estevao finishes Chelsea medical.
According to reports in Brazil, and confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, the winger completed his medical on Friday afternoon, accompanied by Chelsea officials and the Palmeiras medical team.
Estevao, like Paez, will not be able to join until the summer of 2025, when he turns 18, but the Blues have secured the signings of two of South America’s top prospects.
The signing of Estevao for the reported fee demonstrates the club’s confidence in the Brazilian’s abilities, and they moved quickly after losing out to Real Madrid for Endrick.
Estevao made his Palmeiras debut last December, becoming the club’s fourth youngest player at the age of 16 and eight months, and has since made 21 appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
The winger, nicknamed “Messinho,” still needs to develop, but his talent and potential are obvious, and it will be interesting to see what Chelsea’s plan is for him given the club’s abundance of attacking options.
It would be expected for Chelsea to loan Estevao out, but Fabrizio Romano reported last month that the teenager will be promoted directly to the first team squad, though where he fits in right now remains to be seen, especially if Chelsea sign Michael Olise this summer.
