Argentina has announced their final squad for the Copa America.
Three players were left out of Lionel Scaloni’s initial selection: Valentin Barco of Brighton & Hove Albion, Angel Correa of Atletico Madrid, and Marseille defender Leonardo Balerdi.
Argentina begins the tournament against Canada in Atlanta on Thursday.
Lionel Messi captains the team again, as he did in Qatar two years ago, when they won the World Cup. He also led his country to its last Copa America title in 2021.
Liverpool’s Alexis MacAllister, Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez are also on the list.
Enzo Fernandez, a Chelsea midfielder, underwent hernia surgery early in the season to ensure he could play for his national team this summer.
Alejandro Garnacho has also been given a place after a breakout season for Manchester United, despite not playing in either of the final two warm-up games before the tournament.
Lisandro Martinez, a United teammate who missed much of the season due to injury, has also been included.
Scaloni’s team defeated Ecuador 1-0 on June 9 before wrapping up preparations against Guatemala on Friday night, with Messi scoring twice to move into second place on the all-time men’s international goalscorer list.
Following the tournament opener against Canada, Argentina will face Chile on June 26 and Peru on June 30.
