Luke Shaw did not participate in England’s first-team training ahead of Thursday’s Euro 2024 match against Denmark, with Kieran Trippier expected to remain at left-back.
The Manchester United star has not played football since February, when he suffered a muscle injury in a 2-1 victory over Luton Town.
He was a surprise inclusion in England’s provisional squad for this summer’s competition, with Gareth Southgate describing his chances of making the final squad as ‘a long shot’.
Shaw did make the final 26-man squad, however, and was one of the substitutes in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Serbia.
Southgate had considered using Shaw from the bench that night, having trained with the squad prior to the game.
However, the left-back was absent from training on Wednesday and has instead been working on his own fitness outside of the team.
Shaw’s fitness was also called into question on Sunday night when his club manager, Erik ten Hag, revealed on Dutch television that he is unlikely to play in any of England’s group matches.
