Sir Jim Ratcliffe has revealed how many transfer windows it will take to rebuild Manchester United without a single “€100 million” player on the roster.
What happened?
The Red Devils continue to spend heavily in order to reclaim their previous position, despite the Glazer family’s poor track record of calculating blockbuster contracts. That investment has yielded little return since Sir Alex Ferguson retired after the club’s last Premier League title in 2013.
WHAT IS RATCLIFFE SAYING?
Ratcliffe, Britain’s richest man, has purchased 25% of United’s stock and plans to help revive the club. However, he spoke with Bloomberg about the issues and why a quick fix is not possible: “There is room for improvement everywhere we look at Manchester United, and we will improve everything. We want to be in Real Madrid’s position now, but it will take time. It will take two or three summers to reach a better state. Manchester United does not have a player worth 100 million euros (£84 million or $107 million). I’m not confident that we’ll be able to resolve all of the issues during the first transfer window.”
PANORAMA
United faces a number of uncomfortable questions in addition to the issues on the field. Erik ten Hag, the Dutch coach, remаins after winning the FA Cup in 2023-24. When asked about the decision not to make another change in management, Ratcliffe stated, “The coach is not the central issue at Manchester United. It is a sporting club. It must be competitive, high-intensity, and supported because you are working with young players. There has never been an environment like this in history.”
WHAT IS THE FUTURE?
United finished eighth in the Premier League last season, but they will advance to the Europa League in 2024-25. It remаins to be seen how many new faces will be welcomed before the campaign begins, but there could be plenty of departures, including Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, and Casemiro.
