Liverpool is one of several Premier League clubs tracking Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, who has been one of the standout players at Euro 2024 thus far. He scored in both of Germany’s first two victories, securing a spot in the knockout stage as a far-too-early contender for player of the tournament.
According to the Mirror, Liverpool are keeping an eye on Musiala, who is considering a move to England. However, the Bundesliga runner-up’s asking price is likely to be unaffordable for Arne Slot’s team, unless they can reduce it by offering players in exchange.
Express Sport looks at three players who could move in the opposite direction as Musiala’s summer transfer value skyrockets.
That position could be vacated by Luis Diaz, who is still linked with moves to Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain, with his desired wages reportedly a stumbling block in committing to a long-term stay in Merseyside.
Musiala turned down a new deal with Bayern in March, which could pave the way for Diaz to return to the Allianz Arena and potentially solve the German club’s conundrum of finding a successor to their English-born star.
Gomez had his best year in a Liverpool shirt last season, with his versatility invaluable to Jurgen Klopp during their injury crisis, but it’s unclear how he’ll fit in under Slot.
He even returned to the England squad for Euro 2024, but Slot may consider him fourth-choice behind Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahim Konate, and Jarrell Quansah, and the ideal makeweight to reduce Musiala’s fee.
“(Liverpool) didn’t believe in me all along, but you do want to sabotage my future,” he said in an explosive interview. “I want to continue playing every week and further develop myself. In Germany, I enjoy Dortmund away with 70,000 people, Bayern Munich away against Harry Kane, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Leverkusen, and other clubs where I am challenged every week.”
