Put Jack Grealish up there with Ruben Loftus-Cheek as players who I have a soft spot for.
Like Ruben, I just enjoy watching Jack play football. He is majestic, magical, classy, skillful, and high-quality, and he glides effortlessly across the pitch, much like Ruben.
My exclusive report earlier this week that Chelsea had discussed Grealish internally as a potential summer transfer target went viral yesterday, and everyone was talking about it.
I completely understand other people’s perspectives on this, but signing Grealish would be a no-brainer for me, as long as the wages and fees were reasonable. Perhaps they would be, and that would rule it out before it could gather momentum. But if there is a chance, an opportunity, and a realistic chance of getting Grealish for the right price and wages, we simply must jump on it.
He has extensive experience in the Premier League, Europe, and at the international level. He has previous experience as a club captain. And he possesses leadership qualities. All of these things are what we require and are lacking. We need to balance the squad with proven and quality experience, and Jack is your guy, or at least one of them.
I think it’s a bit lazy to say he’d be another Raheem Sterling simply because he’s a Manchester City player who Pep Guardiola appears to be willing to sell. What other City player was Pep Guardiola willing to sell? Cole Palmer. But nobody wants to bring up that comparison?
Jack Grealish is a completely different player than Raheem Sterling. Jack is still in the England squad, whereas Sterling has been absent for several months. Jack is a far superior player to Sterling, and has always been in my opinion. He is a different kind of player with a lot more in his locker. He should start for England, but Gareth Southgate exists.
He can dribble, take players on, has a great eye for many different ranges of passes, can score a world-class goal, and is the type of player who, like Palmer, possesses the x-factor and can make something happen from nothing.
He could actually become Chelsea’s OTHER talisman. Give him the keys to Stamford Bridge, give him freedom, support him, and allow him to be an important player for Chelsea as he was at Aston Villa, and he will thrive once more.
Honestly, he was one of the world’s best at the time. And he hasn’t lost that quality; he is simply told to play a certain way at City, and he faces competition from world-class superstars. Who would his serious rivals at Chelsea be? Exactly…. Give him a real role where he can thrive and feel important, and you’ll see the above Jack again, I have no doubt.
I had MANY reservations about signing Sterling, and I was vocal about it. I don’t have any information about signing Jack.
He hasn’t performed poorly at City.
Granted, he is a bit of a jack the lad, but so were Diego Costa and many other top Chelsea players in the past. These personalities are frequently required in clubs for morale and balance. Paul Gascoigne is my favorite player of all time, and we all know what he was like off the field, but he was still one of the best to ever do it, and no one would have turned him down back then. Grealish’s style of play and ball carrying reminds me of Gazza, which is ironic. Both are absolute ballers.
Look, I’m not sure if we’ll even try to sign him, but he has been discussed. It may result in nothing. He may be too expensive, his wages may be too high, and so be it; that one will end. But if there is a chance and the figures are acceptable, we must go for it.
