Cristiano Ronaldo has decided to play at the World Cup in 2026 because he wants to add one record to his collection

For the first time in his career, the talismanic attacker has gone scoreless in a major international competition. After making a record-breaking appearance in his sixth European Championship, Ronaldo was looking to set another record by becoming the first player in history to score in six different editions of the Euros. 

He came agonisingly close to achieving the feat in Portugal’s most recent match, when they won a penalty in extra time against Slovenia. However, the Al-Nassr superstar missed the penalty kick and burst into tears.

The Portugal legend’s performance has come under scrutiny, as he is frequently seen struggling to win aerial duels, which he was a master at in his prime. According to Relevo, Ronaldo is unlikely to retire after the European Championship because he wants to play in the World Cup two years later. He is still chasing one record at the end of his career: becoming the first player in history to appear and score in all six editions of the flagship competition.
