Former Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona midfielder had a prolific career, but could have done much more if it weren’t for numerous serious injuries.
Thiago Alcantara has retired from football following his departure from Liverpool, The Athletic announced on Sunday night.
Thiago, the son of former Brazil international Mazinho and brother of Rafinha, began his career with Barcelona. He won ten trophies at Camp Nou and was a key member of the teams that won the league title in 2010-11 and 2012-13, as well as the Champions League in 2011.
Unfortunately for Alcantara and the entire football world, his career was ruined by a series of serious injuries that kept him off the field for an extended period of time.
In his final season (2023-24), he played only five minutes as a substitute in Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat in February.
