Chelsea have expressed an interest in signing Dani Olmo, but they face a race against time to trigger his release clause.
Olmo is playing brilliantly at EURO 2024
RB Leipzig midfielder Olmo has been one of the stars of EURO 2024 despite starting just three of Spain’s six games. The 26-year-old scored the winning goal in the semi-final against France in a 2-1 win for La Roja . In total, the Spaniard has scored three goals and provided two assists at the tournament.
Olmo signed a new contract with RB Leipzig last year until 2027, but the deal includes a £50m release clause. According to The Mirror, a number of Premier League clubs are monitoring the midfielder, with Chelsea the most closely followed.
If new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca wants to sign Olmo, the London club will have to act quickly. Olmo’s Leipzig contract expires on Monday, the day after the Euro 2024 final in Berlin. Once that deadline has passed, Leipzig could demand between £60m and £70m for the attacker.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo ahead of EURO 2024, Olmo spoke about his future. “I’m very calm and focused only on EURO 2024,” he said. “Obviously it’s great to see my name being linked with big clubs in Europe and the world.”
After Spain beat France, Olmo told reporters: “We are very close now, just one step away from glory. We planned the game very well and despite conceding, we knew how to react with Lamine Yamal’s spectacular goal and then my own goal. And in the second half, we knew how to control the game.”
