Man United has informed Fiorentina that they will not trigger the Amrabat clause

Manchester United have been considering Sofyan Amrabat’s future since his interim contract expired in June.

Throughout the 2023/2024 season, there were conflicting reports about whether the Moroccan would sign as a Red long-term; he arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day last summer on a season-long loan deal.

Deadline-day signing Sofyan Amrabat: I only ever wanted to play for Man Utd | The Independent Amrabat had to wait to make his debut owing to an initial injury setback, and when he did, in a Carabao Cup win against Crystal Palace in September, he was forced to fill in at left-back for Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, and Sergio Reguilon.

He did so for a few games, making it apparent in post-game interviews that he was willing to do whatever it took to help the club, even if it meant playing outside of his comfort zone.

Sofyan Amrabat set to join Man United The sparkling breakthrough of youthful Kobbie Mainoo, combined with Scott McTominay’s prodigious goalscoring form and Ten Hag’s fondness for Casemiro, left little room for Amrabat to establish himself in the middle of the park. When he did play in midfield, fans weren’t convinced of his suitability for the team.

Unfortunately, the Moroccan international finished the season having made 30 appearances in all competitions, 17 of which came from the start.

What has United determined about Amrabat’s future?

Fabrizio Romano has officially revealed that United have notified Amrabat’s original club, Fiorentina, that they will not activate his £21.4 million purchase clause.

However, they are not wholly opposed to doing business. They are apparently eager to work out a deal if they can negotiate ‘alternative terms’.
